Research Services, University of Prince Edward Island is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Research Compliance Coordinator. The successful applicant will report directly to Manager of Research Services and will be the primary point of contact for faculty, staff and student researchers preparing research compliance applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

REB Administration:

  • Act as primary coordinator on research ethics
  • Discuss and offer guidance to faculty, staff, and student researchers regarding the compliance requirements associated with their research protocols
  • Develop and deliver REB training to faculty and students
  • Work collaboratively with the Health PEI REB on UPEI based applications that must be reviewed by both the Health PEI REB and the UPEI REB
  • Contribute to (a) analysis of existing UPEI ethics policies and (b) evaluation of current regulations that impact the policies

Biosafety Administration:

  • Attend IBC meetings
  • Meet with faculty, staff, and student researchers to discuss their research protocols and offer guidance in regard to the associated compliance requirements (biosafety) 
  • Contribute to (a) analysis of existing policies and (b) evaluation of current regulations that impact the policies

Review all research Grants and contracts:

  • Preview statement of work for awards/grants and:
    • Assess potential biosafety compliance and screen/discuss with BSO/IBC Chair as necessary
    • Assess potential ACC compliance to screen/discuss with ACC chair as necessary
    • Assess potential REB or human ethics compliance and discuss with REB Chair as necessary
    • Mark files as required with the noted compliance requirements

General

  • Review research funding related requests for ‘Request for Release of Funds’ submitted by researchers and coordinate approval with chair to ensure compliance with agency and industry funding agreements
  • Liaises with compliance committee chairs and safety officers on campus
  • Reviews compliance submissions for completeness and conformity with university and agency policies
  • Conducts ongoing monitoring of need for protocol and permit renewal
  • Coordinates the organization of external agency site visits

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree - Thesis-based with two years of related work experience
  • In-depth knowledge of research process, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and understanding of current research and compliance environment
  • Ability to analyze federal regulatory requirements and apply them to the UPEI context
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Tri-Agency Framework on Responsible Conduct of Research and TCPS2
  • Demonstrated ability work as part of a team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent ability to plan, coordinate and establish work priorities/deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate actions and to work with minimal supervision
  • Versatility to handle frequent interruptions while dealing with multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Experience with Romeo would be considered an asset
