The Department of Pathology and Microbiology is seeking a sessional instructor to assist in delivery of Virology in Diagnostic Services (VPM 4500) to fourth-year veterinary students.  This position is subject to budgetary approval.

VPM 4500 – Diagnostic Services – Virology section

This course is a fourth-year core rotation offered 3 times during the 2020 summer semester, 4 times during the 2020 fall semester and 3 times during the 2021 winter semester (offerings for each semester may be subject to change given COVID-19) to small groups of 6-7 students/rotation.  The virology section consists of 1.5 days contact time per rotation with 1 full day to be taught by the sessional virology instructor. The focus of the rotation is clinical diagnostic virology.  Students are given practical experience in diagnostic virology through a review of virology concepts, proper procedures for collection, handling & submission of laboratory specimens, and interpretation of laboratory test results using a case study approach. 

Remuneration will be as specified in the Faculty Association Collective Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must hold a DVM degree. 
  • Preference will be given to those with advanced training or experience in veterinary microbiology with an emphasis or special interest in virology. 
  • Board certification in microbiology (virology) is preferred.
  • Priority will be given to members of the UPEI Sessional Roster for the Department of Pathology and Microbiology.
