Diagnostic Services seeks application from medical laboratory technologists for a permanent position in the Biochemistry section of the Clinical Pathology Laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • To provide experience and leadership to facilitate the accurate and efficient analysis of diagnostic and research specimens within the Clinical Pathology laboratory
  • To develop new methodologies and update current testing methods
  • To troubleshoot equipment and method issues
  • To train and to advise staff and students on test methods and equipment
  • To respond to testing inquiries from clients, veterinary practitioners, students, and researchers
  • To review and assess quality control procedures and values
  • To consult on clinical cases with faculty, staff, students, and veterinary practitioners
  • To procure reagents, consumables, controls, and standards according to UPEI procurement regulations
  • To maintain appropriate inventories of reagents, consumables, controls, and standards
  • To oversee the sample receiving area of the Clinical Pathology laboratory and to be familiar with testing requests for all disciplines within Diagnostic Services
  • To research and update sampling requirements for referral samples
  • To assist with the specimen preparation and demonstration for the Urinalysis portion of the Fourth year Clinical Pathology rotations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Laboratory Technologist designation with certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science
  • 5 years of diagnostic laboratory experience with 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinical chemistry setting
  • BSc would be an asset
  • Excellent organizational, computer and communication skills
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation
  • Familiarity with quality control protocols
  • Excellent bench skills are essential
  • The ability to work under minimum supervision, to multitask and to troubleshoot technical issues at the bench and instrument level is desirable
