As a member of the Comptroller’s Office, the Financial Information Systems (FIS) Officer will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to maintain and enhance the University's financial systems by analyzing requirements; designing processes; and recommending system solutions. This individual will apply proven management, communication, analytical, and problem- solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments within the financial system framework. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with ITSS and other departments in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications and enhancements to existing applications that impact financial operations
  • Identifying new and reviewing existing business processes to streamline and improve business activities from the financial viewpoint 
  • Preparing and delivering reports, recommendations, or alternatives for continuous process improvement of financial operating systems across the organization
  • Configuring financial information systems to meet the needs of stakeholders
  • Testing routine system upgrades and new functionality for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow prior to deployment to production environment
  • Performing routine financial system utilities and reconciliations, often on a quiet system outside of regular business hours
  • Providing systems support and troubleshooting issues relating to Finance
  • Assisting with review of IT controls related to the financial information system, as part of the annual technology risk audit; routine testing of financial IT controls to ensure compliance with UPEI policies and departmental standard operating procedures
  • Maintaining oversight of e-commerce solutions and their integrations with UPEI financial systems
  • Reviewing subledger reconciliations with 3rd party systems for accuracy
  • Assisting in and directing the completion/updating of training manuals, business process documentation, and Finance intranet
  • Verbal and written communication of process changes, enhancements, and modifications to Finance staff and other University stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood
  • Reviewing and working with relevant confidential and sensitive data
  • Liaising with external vendors to problem solve system issues

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, computer science, finance, or management information systems and 5 years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, and business process modeling/mapping 
  • Experience working in a Finance department at a post-secondary educational institution
  • Experience overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and/or hardware solutions, systems, or products
  • Experience in importing and validating data and for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs
  • Ability to create systematic and manual operations procedures in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting practices, financial controls, and configuration of financial systems
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague system would be an asset
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to successfully advance multiple competing priorities
  • Professionalism, maturity, and the ability to deal with confidentiality are vital in this role
