The Dean’s Office at the Atlantic Veterinary College is currently accepting applications for a full-time External Engagement Assistant. This position will work with and report directly to the External Engagement Officer of the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in weekly planning meetings
  • Under the direction of the External Engagement Officer, draft, edit, and proofread a wide variety of communication materials, including correspondence, spreadsheets, stories, publications, presentations, promotional materials, briefing documents, and speaking notes for various delivery modes (e.g. print, electronic, verbal, etc.) for internal and external audiences
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of AVC special events and projects
  • Participate in providing feedback and consultation to UPEI staff, faculty, and related groups in relation to special events planning and scheduling
  • Working with the AVC Dean’s Office team, assist in effectively communicating the goals, objectives, and developments of AVC to both internal and external audiences
  • Provide on-going support to the External Engagement Officer for AVC alumni relations and development activities
  • Assist in managing and developing AVC social media channels and campaigns
  • Work collaboratively with the External Engagement Officer and the AVC to leverage opportunities for enhancing and promoting the reputation, programs, and services of the AVC
  • Contribute to ongoing development and enhancements on the website, particularly to support the AVC’s mission and goals
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree with a focus on marketing, communications, or public relations
  • Minimum one year experience in event management
  • Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and how they can be deployed in different scenarios for their respective audiences
  • Experience working in alumni relations is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in communication project management
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills, e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, web pages, social media, etc.
  • Must be energetic, creative, and able to work evenings and weekends from time to time
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience working in the University environment is an asset
