Research Assistant - School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences - Faculty of Science (Grant Funded)
As soon as possible to May 31, 2019 (Term may be reduced or extending depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)
The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences is seeking one graduate Research Assistant to assist with an NSERC-funded project on Orthogonal Polynomials.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The purpose of this position to finalize an earlier research project done during the summer of 2016 under the title: Solvable potentials with exceptional orthogonal potentials. In this project, a general method based on the Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics approach is introduced to construct some infinite classes of exactly solvable potentials. The underlying idea is to use the factorization technique for quantum Hamiltonians to obtain associated Riccati type equations and apply innovative techniques from Special Functions to track their solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree or graduate degree in Math/Physics
• In-depth knowledge of the methods of solving differential equations using special functions, particularly hypergeometric solutions
• Knowledge of using Symbolic Algebraic Systems such as Mathematica and Maple software to analyze the analytic solutions and examine any approximate solutions that might be developed
