The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (hereafter known as the “Climate Centre”) at the University of Prince Edward Island is a destination for world-class research and learning that provides expertise and collaboration within a living-laboratory setting. The Climate Centre houses state-of-the-art research centres, including the internationally recognized UPEI Climate Research Lab, as well as the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation.

Under the leadership of the Associate Dean of the School of Climate Change and Adaptation, the Manager of Research Partnerships will work with senior administration, faculty and staff to develop, deliver, promote and engage with the world-class climate research initiatives housed at the Climate Centre. Building a culture of research excellence, the Manager of Research Partnerships will champion the development of external and internal partnerships that enable Faculty and researchers to develop their own research and to apply new techniques within the research and broader community.

This position will be responsible for the development of multiple research project plans including scope, goals, budget, strategy, and scheduling. The incumbent will be required to identify risks, establish contingency plans and determine the allotment of resources for each phase of the multiple projects undertaken within the three pillars of research at the Climate Centre.  The position will be responsible for identifying and scheduling project deliverables and coordinating the staff and consultants in the delivery of projects. The incumbent will manage the contracts and agreements between UPEI and consultants or contractors and will represent UPEI at project meetings. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development and implementation of an ongoing strategy for the identification of and collaboration with research partners and projects housed within the Climate Centre’s Research Centres of Excellence
  • Fostering relationships with governments and research funding agencies
  • Work with the Dean of the School of Climate Change and Adaptation in developing and implementing effective research project governance at the Climate Centre
  • Work with industry to develop academic/industrial collaborative partnerships
  • Ensure administrative compliance with UPEI’s policies and procedures
  • Confirm research projects scope, goals and deliverables that support university's goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders
  • Coordination of responses to inquiries from organizations, industry and government agencies
  • Report and present progress in accordance with predetermined metrics to various internal and external stakeholders
  • Cooperatively plan and schedule project timelines and milestones
  • Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements
  • Drive project execution by tracking project activities and budgets to ensure delivery, monitoring and handling changes, conflicts and escalations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized university
  • Ten (10) Years of experience in research management
  • Experience working with multiple groups across multiple jurisdictions
  • Understanding of academic policies and procedures for research management

Asset qualifications:

  • Experience working in the management and delivery of climate change programs
  • Experience in research management at small island communities
  • Professional training in business management administration
