Dr. Libby Osgood in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering is looking to hire a research assistant to work on a project related to electronics, storytelling and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities. The research assistant will be responsible for conducting literature reviews, collecting data in a classroom setting through qualitative and quantitative research methods, formatting data, performing basic statistical analysis, and documenting the process through writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct detailed literature review on storytelling, retention, engagement, and other engineering education pedagogical topics
  • Complete ethics submissions for proposed research topics
  • Collect data in a classroom setting with children and adults using quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Troubleshoot circuitry
  • Format and analyze data using statistical analysis software (SPSS)
  • Keep a written record of all steps and document clearly and concisely for academic writing
  • Work independently and meet with supervisor throughout project
  • Seek help when needed from additional resources
  • Research independently to fill any gaps in required knowledge areas

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated writing ability for academic purposes
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated research skills or ability to work independently
  • Experience with electronics
  • Statistics knowledge
  • Experience teaching or working with children
  • Experience with statistical analysis software is an asset (SPSS or Matlab)
