The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (hereafter known as the “Climate Centre”) at the University of Prince Edward Island is a destination for world-class research and learning that provides expertise and collaboration within a living-laboratory setting. The Climate Centre houses state-of-the-art research centres, including the internationally recognized UPEI Climate Research Lab, as well as the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation. Research activities at the Climate Centre involve generating, analyzing, and reporting large amounts of data. UPEI is acquiring data storage and computing equipment dedicated to the Climate Centre that will be managed by ACENET, a consortium of Atlantic Canadian universities providing researchers with advanced research computing resources, collaboration and visualization tools, software, training, and support.

Under the leadership of the Associate Dean of the School of Climate Change and Adaptation, the Information Specialist will be responsible for supporting data processing, data storage, data analysis, and data reporting requirements for all climate services including teaching, training and research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify data management needs for the three pillars of research at the Climate Centre
  • Design a data management structure and plan for all Climate Centre data requirements
  • Develop data management protocols for the safe storage and handling of all Climate Centre data
  • Communicate and train all (and any new) Climate Centre faculty, staff and students on following data management protocols
  • Liaise with ACENET regularly about the status of the Climate Centre storage array located at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, NL
  • Lead the development of web and smartphone-based applications for the management, monitoring, and reporting of observations and data
  • Represent the Climate Centre, and often UPEI, at meetings of Climate Centre data
  • Present at symposia and conferences on the Climate Centre activities
  • Report on monthly, quarterly and annual Climate Centre data analytics

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized university
  • Experience at a scientific research facility
  • At least Three (3) Years’ experience in monitoring and data management for a research project
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills

Asset qualifications:

  • Graduate degree from a recognized university
  • Experience working in the delivery of climate change programs
  • Experience working in a small island community
