This is a one-year term position within the Department of Companion Animals with some work to be carried out within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.  For 50% of the year, the position will work with the Department of Companion Animals. The remaining 50% of the year will be spent within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in a flexible, floating technical position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

50% - This position will:

  • Support the teaching activities of faculty members in the Department of Companion Animals
  • Provide technical support in the form of lab preparation and technical assistance during and after the laboratory sessions for preclinical veterinary medicine laboratory courses
  • Monitor, advise and assist veterinary students who are participating in departmental courses
  • Maintain supplies and ensure proper equipment maintenance within the laboratory as required
  • Provide technical support for teaching animals and departmental research

50% ‑ This position will be responsible for:

  • Completing treatment and diagnostic orders for patients in the Small Animal VTH on various services as needed
  • Monitoring progression of patients in the VTH
  • Monitoring, advising, and assisting veterinary students who are participating in case management activities within the Small or Large Animal Hospital
  • Maintaining supplies and ensuring proper equipment maintenance within the VTH as required
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates for this position must:

  • Be graduates of an AHT program from a recognized school with RVT designation
  • A minimum of 3 years of current experience with small and large animals
  • Have excellent oral communication skills
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Have excellent organization and time management skills
  • Have basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Be self‑motivated and able to work independently in a versatile work environment
  • Experience in a referral practice is valuable. Experience within multiple disciplines is essential, e.g. anaesthesia, surgery, and internal medicine. Experience with techniques such as (but not limited to): chemotherapy administration, endoscopy support, critical care patient management, wound management, and bandaging is highly desirable
