The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a sessional instructor to teach clinical pathology in the following 2 courses:
VPM 4500 DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
This course is a rotation in the fourth year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum. Students gain practical experience in clinical diagnostics with respect to the application of techniques and the interpretation of results in the areas of pathology, clinical pathology, virology, bacteriology and parasitology. Each rotation is a shared course spanning a 3-week period.
VPM 2420 – CLINICAL PATHOLOGY
This is taught during the winter semester of the second-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum. The course presents the principles of veterinary hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, and cytology, and provides opportunities to develop diagnostic reasoning and technical skills relating to clinical pathology. This is a shared course and consists of two hours of lecture and two to three hours of laboratory per week.
Remuneration will be as specified in the Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will:
- Have a DVM or equivalent degree.
- Be board certified or board eligible by the ACVP in clinical pathology.
- Hold a graduate degree in veterinary clinical pathology.
- Have teaching skills.
- Possess well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship building and communication.
Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
