The Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for a ten-month term contract faculty position in Small Animal Surgery. Appointment will be made at the lecturer level.

The successful applicant will join an established Companion Animal Department and Small Animal Surgery Section. Job duties include didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students throughout the surgical curriculum. Clinical undergraduate teaching will include oversight of students during elective procedures on live animals and more advanced procedures (e.g. limb amputation, enucleation, cystotomy) on cadavers.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • a DVM (or equivalent) degree
  • a minimum of two years clinical experience with an emphasis on small animal surgery
  • demonstrated additional surgical training and ability
  • demonstrated teaching ability
  • well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship building and communication
  • eligibility for licensure with the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association.  

Preference will be given to candidates with advanced didactic and practical training in small animal surgery and general surgical technique, supporting demonstrated interest and experience in a variety of small animal surgical procedures.

The salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. Full-time faculty receive a comprehensive fringe benefit package, with benefit details provided at time of offer in accordance with the collective agreement.  This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.
