A part-time student research assistant position is available for undergraduate engineering student with interest in the development of smart sewer systems. The objective of this project is to develop waste water quality monitoring systems using the electronic nose (e-nose) technology. In collaboration with UBC and Metro Vancouver, the student will work under the supervision of Dr. Ali Ahmadi, and will receive training in the areas of e-noses, instrumentation, advanced liquid handling system and filtration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The students will work on the following tasks:

  • Design, develop and test a water sampling and purging mechanism
  • Design, develop and test a multi-stage filtration system
  • Integrate the sampling and filtration unit with the e-nose developed at UBC.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic knowledge of engineering design and engineering drawing (CAD) is required.
  • Previous experience with 3D printing and proficiency in technical writing is required.

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
