GRADUATE STUDENT ASSISTANT: Development of Bat Handling Guidelines

The Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College is seeking applications for a graduate student assistant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review of peer-reviewed and grey literature to provide an overview of existing best practices for the safe care and handling of bats in research and management for the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) – Atlantic Region
  • Contribute to the project summary and end-of-year reporting as required by the service project granting agency
  • Other activities may include consultation with experts in the field of bat biology, bat health, and bat management; involvement in bat necropsy work; and/or data management

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Student must be enrolled in a Graduate program
  • Preference will be given to a student with demonstrated interest and experience with wildlife health and biology, particularly related to bats
  • Strong writing and literature-review skills
  • Prophylactic vaccination against rabies is essential if laboratory work is conducted
  • Experience utilizing a variety of computer software programs
  • Independent work habits

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
