Student Research Assistant - Department of Health Management - Atlantic Veterinary College
$12.25 plus 4% vacation pay
February 1, 2020 to December 23, 2020
Applications are invited for a position as a student research assistant for a grant funded research project entitled “Psychophysiological effects of Equine-assisted therapy on horses and in veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)”. The research will require off campus travel between Serene View Ranch (Pownal) and UPEI.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will be required to assist with data collection from humans participating in the equine facilitated psychotherapy (EFP) program. Activities will include but are not limited to:
- Collecting saliva from the mouth
- Instrumenting humans with heart rate monitors
- Organizing and preparing biological samples for research analysis
- Maintaining research supplies and ensuring proper research equipment maintenance
- Maintaining a lab notebook during EFP sessions and other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a 4th year UPEI Kinesiology student
- Must be available every Wednesday 8:30-1:30 for the duration of the study period
- Must have experience using HR monitors on humans
- Must have experience with HRV analysis
- Excellent written communication skills
- Must be self-motivated and reliable
- Must be able to work as part of a team as well as independently when required
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures for biological sample processing
