BUS3010 Business Law – Part I

(Semester dates July 5th – August 17th)

This course offers students a basic introduction to the legal system and, in particular, the areas of tort, property, and contract law. A major portion of the course is devoted to the study of the legal implications of contractual issues in business endeavours. Legal cases are used, when applicable, to illustrate principles of law.

BUS4820 Special Topics: From Field to Table – Challenges and Opportunities Facing Food Systems, Food Security, and the Global Agri-Business Sector during times of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA)

(Semester dates May 17th – June 29th)

In this VUCA environment, agri-food business occupies a prominent place in today’s social and political agendas. Uncertainties associated with COVID as they relate to the disruption of the food supply chain and their management, concerns about the reduced availability of food, increased hunger and fears about social insecurity, abrupt changes in consumer habits, labour shortage, disruptions in markets, and runs on basic staples are at the core of these uncertainties. All these and other economic and social factors have meant that food systems and agri-food businesses face many multifaceted challenges. This course is designed to provide a data-supported understanding of multi-disciplinary themes related to the questions facing agri-food business and agri-food systems today and in the future and provide participants with tools and insights for making better business decisions and developing more robust strategies. The course, supplemented by talks from global agribusiness experts and using case studies, takes a contextual approach and content-driven pedagogy that assures a deep understanding of the concepts that affect the entire food system, from food production to consumption, and how these different factors generate multiple risks and opportunities.

Qualifications for undergraduate courses:
