Arrival and Departure

Travelling from the Province of Quebec by Airplane:

The fastest and most efficient way to travel to PEI is by airplane. Look for seat sales, as this option can often be the least expensive way to travel as well. Both Westjet and Aircanada service the Charlottetown airport. We do not provide a shuttle service to or from the airport. A taxi will cost approximately $14 to Blanchard Hall.

Travelling from the Province of Quebec by Train:

Travelling by train is another option. Students travelling by train go to Moncton, NB, and then by bus from Moncton to Charlottetown, PEI, as the train does not run to PEI.

Maritime Bus service picks students up at the train station and drops students off directly at Blanchard Hall.

Travelling from the Province of Quebec by Car:

Travelling by car is also possible. It is aproximately a 11 hour drive from Montréal and a 9 hour drive from Quebec city. If traveling by car, once in Charlottetown, it is easiest to find the residence buildings by using the entrance off Belvedere Avenue rather than the entrance off University Avenue. After entering the University via Belvedere Avenue, veer left and the Residence Buildings are straight ahead.

What to do when you arrive

It is recommended that you arrive after 12:00pm on Monday, prior to the start of your program. When on campus, go to Blanchard Hall, the residence building where students stay for the duration of the program. Residence staff will be in the lobby of Blanchard Hall waiting for you to check-in and pick up your key. Please note: be sure not to lose your key; the replacement fee is $40.

After you pick up your key and orientation kit, staff will inform you of what to do on the first morning of the program (Tuesday). At this point, you will be able to see who your roommates are. Four people share each apartment in residence. Each apartment has four beds, a living room, bathroom, telephone, and a kitchen with a refrigerator.

Please note: since students arrive at all different times on the Monday, there are no meals in the cafeteria. However, there are several fast food restaurants within walking distance of Blanchard Hall, including a grocery store, and a Subway restaurant. Meals in the cafeteria will begin on the Tuesday.

If you arrive before Monday: You will most likely stay at Blanchard Hall. To book these accommodations, please call Residence Summer Accommodations at 1-902-566-0362. Note: There will be no supervision available prior to the start of the program.

If you arrive after Monday: It is not recommended that you arrive after Monday. However, if you are arriving after Sunday, please go to Andrew Hall. The residence front desk is in this building. This is where you check-in and pick up your key. After picking up your key, you will be directed to Blanchard Hall; this is the residence building where students stay for the duration of the program.

Once you have put your luggage in your room, you should find an Explore Activity Supervisor. Their office is in Room 102 Blanchard Hall.

Soon after arriving, one of the Activity Supervisors will get you settled. Preparations will then be made for you to take a placement test to determine which class you will be in for the program.

What to do when you leave

Most students will leave in the afternoon on the final Friday. Since students leave at different times on Friday breakfast is offered in the cafeteria, but there is no dinner. Before leaving, students must drop off their keys in the lobby of Blanchard Hall Residence Building to the UPEI Residence staff. Please note: be sure not to lose your key; the replacement fee is $40.

Since most students leave by bus, Maritime Bus will pick students up at UPEI in front of the residence buildings on campus.

Very few students stay past Friday. However, if necessary, you can book accommodations by contacting Residence Summer Accommodations at 902-566-0362. Note: There will be no supervision available after the last day of the program.
