Large Animal Medicine
AVC’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to a variety of individual farm animals including cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, goats and some exotic species. Senior students, interns, residents, technicians and faculty clinicians are involved in the care and treatment of both referral and owner-presented cases.
Stalls and pens are available for all types and sizes of animals. There are isolation stalls for calves and larger animals, padded stalls for colic cases and pens with sand floors for recumbent cattle.
Specific examination rooms are dedicated for use by cattle and horses. There are facilities for intensive care of critically ill newborn foals. Equipment resources include a high-speed treadmill, a hydraulic foot-trimming table, an endoscopy system (bronchoscope and gastroscope), and gamma scintigraphy in the radiology suite.
