Our dispensary is an integral part of the AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Pharmaceutical care is provided to inpatients, outpatients, ambulatory equine service, and farm service patients through consultation with clinicians, staff, students, and owners. Services include dispensing medications, compounding, and chemotherapy preparation.

Our policies conform to national and provincial regulations regarding drug distribution, and we participate in rigorous accreditation standards. A formulary system is maintained to define drug availability and dosage suggestions. Most drugs are available to patients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital on prescription from faculty and staff veterinarians. A small number of drugs are available over the counter for small animal client convenience. We also supply our equine, dairy, beef and swine ambulatory clients with OTC products through the veterinarians on farm. Access to the dispensary is physically restricted to the general public.

Our dispensary is staffed by knowledgeable technicians and nurses, and is overseen by the Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

If you have refills available on your prescription, requests for these prescription refills can be made by calling the dispensary directly at 902-566-0461. Refills can only be processed if pre-approved by a veterinarian.

Requests for new refill prescriptions must be made through your veterinarian, and a new prescription must be issued. To reach your veterinarian within the VTH to discuss prescriptions, please call 902-566-0950.
