The Client Services unit is located adjacent to the Large and Small Animal reception areas. This service has three functional areas: Medical Records, Admitting and Billing. Each of these systems is computerized. A veterinary medical information management system (VMIMS) has been installed. VMIMS has a number of functional areas including radiology, lab, admitting, and billing. Existing tailored programs have been incorporated into VMIMS.
Medical Records uses terminal digit filing of records and the problem-oriented medical record (POMR) philosophy. Each computerized admission automatically generates a computer billing file. An embossed card is made and a pre-embossed admitting package of medical record forms is prepared for the clinician. Medical Records maintains control over the integrity of the record by ensuring timely completion, strict confidentiality, and controlling access to, or movement of, records within the hospital.
