Description: Awarded to an International student enrolled in their second year of study as a full time undergraduate student in good academic standing who demonstrates involvement, both on and off campus.
Background: This award, established in 2002, was created as part of the UPEI effort to support international development and international students. In the spirit of raising awareness and promoting international education, UPEI holds and annual luncheon during International Development Week to raise funds for this scholarship. In 2008, the UPEI international student award was renamed in honour of Dr. Vianne Timmons, former Vice-President of Academic Development at UPEI and now President of the University of Regina. This honour recognizes Dr. Timmons' dedication and involvement in internationalization during her time at UPEI. Friends, family and colleagues have donated to the award in her name. Dr. Timmons has personally pledged an annual gift of $1,000 until the endowed fund reaches the level required to provide for the award in perpetuity. Dr. Timmons grew up in Newfoundland Labrador, and spent her early career in Alberta and British Columbia. She has also served as an associate professor and chair of the Education Department at St. Francis Xavier University. She holds degrees from the University of Calgary, Gonzaga University, Acadia University and Mount Allison University.
