Description: Awarded to first-year students who intend to major in Psychology.
Background: Julian Jaynes (1920-1997) was born in Massachusetts, did his undergraduate work at Harvard and McGill and received both his master's and doctoral degrees in psychology from Yale. Julian Jaynes was a popular teacher and he lectured in the Psychology Department at Princeton University from 1966 to 1990 and was a visiting lecturer to UPEI in the summers. Julian Jaynes was an associate editor of the internationally renowned journal Behavioural and Brain Science and on the editorial board of the Journal of Mind and Behavior. His publications are numerous. The Dr. Julian Jaynes scholarships have been established at UPEI through a generous donation from the Julian Jaynes Memorial Trust to create a lasting memorial to a renowned psychologist, author, and teacher, in tribute to his achievements and in respect of his wish to support and encourage young people in the study of psychology.
