
Intestines have a double-layer of smooth muscle, with nerve plexi and nuclei in between. Slide 34 is an excellent example for smooth muscle and nerves. The outer smooth muscle layers are always in cross-section on the inside, and longitudinal on the outside. Use the appropriate orientation to observe:

As an option, slide 112 is of uterus in a non-gravid or non-pregnant state. The smooth muscles making up most of the outer portion of the organ are in a hyperplastic state. They are small, have little cytoplasm, and appear blue, due to the numerous, crowded nuclei. |
