Slide 11 is of a portion of white adipose. The lipids in adipocytes are not fixed by routine fixation in 10% BNF (buffered neutral formalin) and are dissolved during processing for H&E wax preparations. |
Slide 10 is of lymph node, and shows, as well as an H & E preparation can, reticular CT. Reticular CT is the "spider web-like" version of collagen (type III) that forms of mesh of supporting cables for filtering organs, such as lymph nodes, spleen, and red bone marrow. Having seen lymph node stained with H&E, turn now to Slide 121, which has been prepared with a reticular (silver) stain. Figure 3-14 (page 17) in the atlas shows a similar preparation.
