The Institute of Island Studies at the University of Prince Edward
Island has a program of research associates, through which to regularize
and formalize relationships with scholars whose work complements
that of the Institute of Island Studies. The Institute is now accepting
applications from interested researchers.
Research associates will receive privileges such as the following:
a) Use of Institute facilities inasmuch as they are available;
standard library privileges at Robertson Library; a UPEI computer
account; invitation to Institute and University events.
b) The right to use affiliation with the Institute in applications
to outside funding agencies for research projects congruent with
the Institute's mandate; projects must adhere to tri-council policies
on research ethics and will be subject to the University's standard
administrative and ethical approvals.
c) Upon invitation, the opportunity to contribute to Institute
affairs.
In order to apply, scholars are asked to submit the following:
a) A curriculum vitae.
b) An outline of the research project(s) they propose to conduct
under the auspices of the research associates program, or their
research interests, as appropriate.
c) A covering letter briefly outlining their rationale for requesting
associate status and the requested term of appointment.
Appointments will be made for a period of up to three years and
are renewable if circumstances warrant. Applications will be recommended
by the Institute's Academic Relations Committee and decided by a
formal vote of the Institute's Advisory Board. Appointments will
be made under the signature of the Director of the Institute of
Island Studies.
Because limited numbers of appointments are available, it is highly
recommended that scholars discuss their applications with the Institute
of Island Studies prior to submitting them. Inquiries should be
directed to Director of Island Studies, staff liaison to the Academic Relations
Committee. E-mail iis@upei.ca or phone (902) 566-0386.
