AVC provides primary and referral veterinary services for companion and food animals,
including agriculture and aquaculture food animals, in Atlantic Canada. Services for the
aquaculture industries include on-farm diagnostic investigations and laboratory analysis
of submissions for finfish and shellfish (bivalves and crustaceans). Production medicine,
including monitoring of production and health, is enhanced by the use of computerized
information networks available at the AVC.
The fish Health Diagnostic laboratory services are provided in a similar fashion as testing carried out in other animals. This permits a wide range of special analyses, including: bacteriology, clinical chemistry, endocrinology, haematology, histology, mycology, parasitology, toxicology, and virology.
