Monday Afternoon 1:00-2:30 Concurrent Workshops I: Models, Tools, and Good Practices for Health Promotion, Crime Prevention, and Social Development

Participants will be given the opportunity to choose among a number of workshops focused on existing community development models and tools, and examples of these models in action. With the assistance of facilitators, participants will engage in an evaluation of these models and tools as methods for linking and strengthening efforts to promote health and prevent crime through social development.
Models and tools for review include:
- SEI, social and economic inclusion lens
- Community accounts
- GBA, gender-based analysis lens
- Circle of health
- PATH, people assessing their health
2:30-3:00 Nutrition Break and Walkabout 3:00-4:30 Concurrent Workshops II: Models, Tools, and Good Practices for Health Promotion, Crime Prevention, and Social Development
During this session, the same workshops will be held a second time in order to give participants an opportunity either to evaluate: 1) a different model for comparison with the first one, or; 2) the same model or tool in relation to a different application.

Tuesday Morning 7:30-9:00 Breakfast 9:00-9:30 Review and Orientation 9:30-11:30 Concurrent Training Sessions I: Developing and Refining Skills for Creating a Healthier Atlantic Canada
Participants will have the opportunity to choose among a set of training sessions aimed at developing and/or refining skills that are essential for establishing and maintaining partnerships among those working in the areas of health promotion, crime prevention, and social development.
With the involvement of expert trainers, participants will engage in a variety of exercises that will help them to learn more about and practice skills in some of the following areas:
Planning, designing, and launching projects
- Building relationships and keeping them he
althy
- Finding and managing resources
- Research—what it is, how to do it, and how to use it
- Evaluation and project management
- Writing proposals and reports
- Communicating your results
- Policy—what is it and how to change it

Tuesday Afternoon 1:00-3:00 Concurrent Training Sessions II: Developing and Refining Skills for Creating a Healthier Atlantic Canada
Participants will have the opportunity to choose another area of skill development from among the workshops offered in the morning.

Wednesday Morning 7:30-9:00 Breakfast 9:00-9:30 Review and Orientation 9:30-11:30 Dialogues: “Meeting of the minds”
With the aid of an experienced facilitator, participants will identify issues or initiatives that they are passionate about working on. Like-minded people will gather to share their knowledge, insights, and experiences about how to build a healthier Atlantic Canada.
Small groups will then share the highlights of their discussions.

Wednesday Afternoon 1:00-3:00 From ideas to actions: “What can we do together?”
In this final session of the Institute, participants will work together on action plans aimed at addressing some or all of the issues and initiatives identified in the morning session. As with all previous activities, these action plans will combine the perspectives of health promotion, crime prevention, and social development, and will draw on people working in and across these areas.
