Hearing in Whales: Then and Now

Dr. Cathy Schaap, from the Atlantic Veternary College of the University of Prince Edward Island, began with a explanation of the biology and functionality of mammalian hearing systems.

Dr. Sue Dawson, from the Atlantic Veternary College of the University of Prince Edward Island, focused on the anatomical mechanisms of hearing in cetaceans. She then discussed what fossils can tell us about the evolution of these mechanisms, with a focus on CAT scans of a 40-milllon-year-old fossil whale.
