How can I find out how much online time I have used this month ?

There is a webpage that is available to give you this current months usage. It will include all logins this month up till the last time you logged in. Goto Access Services Webpage and then click on Account Tools. In there, is the Online Time Usage Report. You will have to enter your access services login username and password. You can select a detailed record of your logins, or simply the total number of hours used so far this month.

How can I change my Internet Access password ?

There is a webpage that is available to change a users password. Goto the Access services webpage, and then click on the Account Tools link on the left hand side. From there, click on Password Changer. You will be required to enter your access services login username, current password and what you want for a new password. You will have to enter the new password in twice to confirm it. It is recommended that the password be between 6 and 8 characters and contains at least one capitalized letter, and a numeric. This will increase your chances that your password is not easily guessable by someone.

How can I change my email password ?

Since your email originates from the network on campus, you have to change your network password. If you are a student, log onto the network at school, and select Other Operations Menu, and then Change Password. For faculty or staff, select Setpass from the Programs -> Misc menus. For MS-Dos users, go to the Dos prompt and type in "setpass" and you will be prompted to change your password. It is recommended that the password be between 6 and 8 characters and contains at least one capitalized letter, and a numeric. This will increase your chances that your password is not easily guessable by someone.

I've gone over the 100 hours allowed ! What's going to happen ?

If you do go over the 100 hours per month, you will be billed at a rate of $1 per hour for every extra hour plus applicable taxes. At the start of each month, you would receive an email letter detailing the amount due and the deadline for payment (usually 10 days). For overages, payment method include cash, cheque or credit card and are payable at Computer Services. Please note that overages not paid by the due date will be handled in a mammer similar to other monies owed the university. For students espically, this will affect the release of transcripts and marks.

How do I renew my account ?

It depends on your payment method, however generally, it is at the start of each semester. Notices are sent out informing users to renew their accounts. Currently, users are requested to contact Computer Services to arrange payment.

Where can I get updated version of the software ?

Most of the programs distributed in the slipware software can be found separately on the Internet. For instance, Netscape and Pegausus both have updated versions of their software available for download. We have direct links to this updated software from our software page. Here you will find links to updated versions of software and links to large archives of other Internet software. We do update our CD of Internet software from time to time, so you can drop into Computer Services and borrow it;  it is especially useful to update your version of MacAfee Virus Scan this way.

I've lost the installation and configuration guide, where can I get another ?

The Slipware Installation and Configuration Guide is now online here, you can view the webpage and print it off. If you have difficulty printing it off, contact Computer Services for a copy.

I've lost my Slipware disks, where can I get replacements ?

There are copies available for loan to users at Computer Services. For Windows 95/98 users, if you have need to reinstall the software on your original computer or on a second machine in your home, we have it available on CD, obtainable also from Computer Services.

How come your Slipware disk software is so old ?

Sometimes we receive enquiries as to why the Slipware disk software that is distributed for Windows 3.1 users is behind the times. We feel that it is necessary to have a software package that would work on most computers (we didn't want to exclude someone, just because they do not have the fast or new computer !). With that in mind, the software is able to run adequately on 486DX computers and above.

However, we have an updated version of the software specific to Windows95/98, distributed on a CD-ROM to new members of UPEI Access Services.  Drop into Computer Services if you would like to borrow a copy to update your MacAfee Virus Scan or other Internet software.

Can I use other programs that do not come with Slipware, such as chats and ICQ ?

Yes. As mentioned earlier, we have links to large archive sites which contain vast amount of sharware and freeware internet programs. These are all available to be downloaded, installed and run from your own computer. So, feel free to download mIRC, ICQ, and a mirad of plugins's for Netscape or whatever you wish. Your own experience and hard drive space will determine how far you can go.

Can I access programs on the network like Wordperfect and Presentations when I connect to Access Services ?

No. The Internet connection to UPEI at home is not connected to the University's Novell Network. Therefore, you cannot run any campus programs from home.
