Contracts

All contractual obligations of the University must be reviewed by the Comptroller's Office and signed by an official signing authority (see Signing Authority policy) namely:

  • The President
  • The Vice-President, Administration and Finance
  • The Vice-President, Research 
  • The Vice-President, Academic 
  • The Comptroller

Once the appropriate documents are provided to the Comptroller's Office, there may be a requirement to meet and discuss the purpose or any conditions in the agreement. Upon approval of the contract, copies are made available to The Accounting Office, and to the originating department for completion of the process.

Types of Contracts

Service Contract

A service contract is an agreement where UPEI is contracted to provide a service to a business, individual, or outside party. The contract describes in detail the nature, duration and description of the service(s) and the compensation provided.

Fee for Service Contract

A Fee for Service contract is an agreement with UPEI where a business, individual or agency agrees to provide a service in return for monetary compensation. The contract describes in detail the nature, duration, and description of the services provided.

Secondment

A Secondment contract is an arrangement between UPEI and another employer. It details the temporary transfer of a person from his/her normal duties to an assignment at UPEI.

MOU & Other Agreements

A MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) is an agreement between two or more parties to work jointly on a project or towards a common goal.
