In 1991, Dr. Munro was invited to become the Founding Dean of the new UPEI School of Nursing and remained in that position until July 1997 when she retired. The curriculum of this school was the first in Canada to be developed based directly on the principals of primary health care. Within the program, UPEI School of Nursing maintained the goal of preparing graduates to practice nursing from those principals and also to give leadership in primary health care through their own professional nursing practice. Dr. Munro wrote the book Forward in Faith: Establishing the School of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island telling the story of the School's beginnings. Dr. Munro supports the UPEI School of Nursing students through awards, scholarships and bursaries.
