A Campus Closure & Alert line (894-2882) is now in operation, and website/email notices will be used. Decisions will be based primarily on road and highway conditions and secondly on conditions in Charlottetown or on campus. Closures or delayed openings will be effective at a specified time.
 
Announcement Methods and Timing
 
Early morning (prior to regular opening of campus):
 
A recorded message, by 7:00 am if possible, on the UPEI hotline at #894-2882.
Radio announcements, by 7:00 am news, if possible, to avoid unnecessary travel.
A broadcast message to all students in residence is sent through the phone system.
Posting on UPEI website and email notice on UPEI Events as well.
 
Between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm:
 
A recorded message on the UPEI Campus Closure & Alert line at #894-2882.
Calls to the full phone list which includes all buildings and most departments.
Radio announcements for evening classes.
Urgent email notice sent to all faculty and staff.
Urgent notice on UPEI website.
A broadcast message to all students in residence is sent through the phone system.
 
After 4:00 pm:
 
Radio announcements.
Calls to limited phone list (Security Police Department, Library, Sports Centre, Facilities Management, AVC).
Urgent notice on UPEI website.
Security Police will do a limited check through classroom/common areas.
A broadcast message to all students in residence is sent through the phone system.
Email notice on UPEI Events as well.
 
Exam period:
 
As above, but in consultation with Registrar's Office (566-0439) about timing to avoid shutting down during an exam.
