Dr. Crawford Revie comes to UPEI from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. As Canada Research Chair in Population Health: Epi-Informatics, Dr. Revie is exploring new ways to use techniques from informatics such as data mining, data-driven modelling, and semantic web technologies to gain a better understanding of disease epidemiology. He is developing new ways to extract and organize the knowledge that currently exists in large and complex databases to gain new insights into disease transmission.
Dr. Kate Tilleczek joins UPEI as Canada Research Chair in Child/Youth Cultures and Transitions. She is examining the cultures and experiences of Canada’s young people in comparison with children and youth around the world and at different times in history. Dr. Tilleczek is building new knowledge about how children and youth make important transitions in contemporary contexts and institutions. She works closely with and for young people, parents, educators, health care practitioners, policy-makers, and community leaders. She is examining more effective ways to do research and practice which intersect youth culture and schools, families, digital contexts, communities, and health care settings.
The Canada Research Chairs program is part of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top countries in research and development. UPEI is proud to be home to seven Canada Research Chairs.
