Day 1

Morning - Practical Didactic Sessions

  • CCAC Guidelines (1 hour)
  • CCAC Discussion on Common Issues for Aquatic Animal Personnel (1 hour)
  • Pain Assessment in Fish (1 hour)

Lunch and Learn - General Discussion

  • Institutional Animal Care Committee Concerns with Aquatic Animal Protocols (Lunch provided)

Afternoon - Wet Laboratory Sessions

  • Fish Restraint, Anaesthesia and Blood Collection (1.5 hours)
  • Aquatic Facility Design and Troubleshooting (1.5 hours)

Day 2

Morning – Practical Didactic Sessions

  • Lab Based Biosecurity and Experimental Design in Fish (1 hour)
  • Water Quality Examination and Trouble shooting (1 hour)
  • Introduction to General Pathology of Aquatic Species Including Common Disease Conditions (1 hour)

Lunch and Learn - General Discussion

  • Communication between Veterinarians and Staff in Aquatic Laboratory Environments (Cafeteria on site)

Afternoon - Wet Laboratory Sessions

  • Zebrafish / Aquarium Systems (1.5 hours)
  • Fish Necropsy, Basic Diagnostics and Sample Submission (2 hours)
