| An Advisory Committee and several planning committees are required to ensure the smooth delivery of the Summer Institute. The Advisory Committee of the Atlantic Summer Institute on Healthy and Safe Communities is a non-incorporated organization of representatives from research, government and community that provide broad-based guidance for program direction, partnership development, and resource commitment for the Institute and its related projects. Specifically, the Advisory Committee provides project guidance and focus for the Institute, creates the agenda and program, supports/guides the sub-committees, encourages and supports attendance of participants, ensures a comprehensive evaluation process, and promotes the development of projects from the Institute. One such project, developed in 2005 was the provincial networks. These were created in order to reach out further into the Atlantic Canadian communities with the vision of increasing diversity and representation from each of the four provinces. Lead PartnerThe Atlantic Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health (ACEWH) is the lead partner and administrator of resources for the Institute. Co-HostsThe University of Prince Edward Island’s Centre for Life-Long Learning and the PEI Health Research Institute co-host the Institute. CoordinatorsThe Quaich (pronounced Qwake) Inc., a consulting and marketing company whose principle focus is on health promotion, innovation, and change in the health field, has handled the organization and delivery of the Summer Institute since its inception in 2004. SponsorsThe major funder for the past three years has been the Government of Canada’s National Crime Prevention Strategy. |
