Description: Granted to a student entering their third or fourth year of study who has expressed an interest in, and has the potential to pursue, graduate studies in the fields of Library and Information Sciences, Archival Studies, or History.
Background: Betty Jeffery, a first-generation university student in her family, benefitted from scholarship and award support for both her undergraduate and graduate studies.??She received her B.A. in History from Acadia University and her M.L.S. from McGill University. Most of her career following graduation was spent as an academic librarian, including the last 17 years at UPEI.??Throughout her career she was actively involved in scholarly endeavours and contributions to her profession. In addition, she served the university and broader community in various ways. Of note is the fact that she was the first female and the first librarian to serve as president of the UPEI Faculty Association. The University conferred the title of Librarian Emerita on her in 2017. Betty has always understood the importance of giving back to her community. It is in that spirit that she has generously established this endowed fund to support UPEI students.
