Residence Student Leaders
Tri-Hall Council
(subject to change)
All residence students are represented by elected student leaders who live in the residences. The executive of the Tri-Hall Council is made up of a president, vice-president from each building, a treasurer and secretary. There are also floor/section representatives elected from each building beginning in September. Elections for the exective positions are held in March of each academic year.
The Council will be responsible for organizing events, building spirit among the residents, and acting as a resource for people. They will be responsible for managing a yearly budget based on money provided through the Office of Residence, Food, and Conference Services, and money raised through other ventures. The money raised by the Tri-Hall Council is expected to be used to purchase items for residence student use (games, VCRs, etc.), and to subsidize residence student events (semi-formals, wet/dry pubs, paint-ball, etc.).
Residence Life Advisors
Several upper-year students live in each Hall and are employed as Residence Life Advisors. The RLAs have a wide range of responsibilities, both on their residence floor/section and throughout all residences. The RLAs exist primarily to help students adjust to residence and university life, and to establish an environment conducive to self-direction, self-discipline, and self-improvement of the residents. They are trained in peer counselling, conflict mediation, First Aid/CPR, and much more. RLAs are knowledgeable about on-campus facilities and services, and can direct students to available resources as required. Each RLA is also responsible for planning and implementing various residence programs aimed at enhancing the overall residence and/or university experience. RLAs act as a liaison between the residents and the Residence Administrators. Since residence life encompasses a variety of different activities, RLAs strive to achieve a balance between quiet study and relaxing social events, so that the residence environment becomes a productive and enjoyable one for all residents.
Residence Academic Advisors
Within the residence system, students are employed as Residence Academic Advisors (RAAs) for residence students in their first year of studies. The main responsibility of the RAA is organizing and promoting a tutoring program for residence students enrolled in 100-level courses. RAAs are also expected to organize and promote educational events for all students in residence (time management, financial budgeting, cooking, etc.). RAAs can direct students who have academic difficulty to various departments and services located on campus.
Hiring of RLAs and RAAs takes place in early February of each year. If you are interested in finding out more about the position of a Residence Life Advisor or Residence Academic Advisor, stop by the Office of Residence Life or visit your RLA/RAA during the school year.
