Meridian Mail Instructions

The UPEI residence telephone system is equipped with a Voice Mailbox system named Meridian Mail. Meridian Mail allows a residence student to check his or her messages from any telephone extension on campus or from a telephone off-campus. There is a number of features with the Meridian Mail system. The following instructions will help you personalize your voice mailbox and explain how to use the various features.

Log On
  1. On campus, dial 4799. While off-campus dial 626-4799
  2. Enter your 4-digit Voice Mailbox number, followed by the pound key (#)
  3. Enter your password, followed by the pound key (#)
Log Off
  1. Press 83 or hang up
Help
  1. Press * for general help
  2. Enter 7* for message help
  3. Enter 8* for mail box help
RECORDING YOUR PERSONAL VERIFICATION/MAILBOX GREETING
Personal Verification
  1. Dial 4799, enter your voice mailbox number + #, enter your password + #
  2. Press 89. The system will play your name, or if not yet recorded it will tell you, “there is no personal verification recorded for your voice mailbox”
  3. Press 5. After the tone, record your name and mailbox number
  4. Press # to stop the recording
  5. To review your recording press 2

Mailbox Greeting

An external greeting will automatically play to both internal and external callers.

  1. Dial 4799, enter your voice mailbox number + #, enter your password + # and press 82
  2. Select 1 for external greeting
  3. Press 2 to review your current greeting
  4. Press 5 to record, press # to stop recording
  5. To review your recording, press 2

Password

Your initial password is the same as your University student ID number. Meridian Mail will prompt you to change this, and your new password must be a minimum of six digits in length. Should you forget your password, call the Residence Life Office at 628-4368.

  1. Dial 4799, enter your voice mailbox number + #, enter your password + # and press 83
  2. Enter new password, press #
  3. Re-enter new password, press #
  4. Enter old password, press #
  5. Your password is now changed

Listening to Your Messages

Meridian Mail will notify you of new messages in your mailbox by activating the light on your telephone. While listening to your messages, you can use the following commands:

  1. Play Message - 2
  2. Go to Previous Message - 4
  3. Skip Forward 5 Seconds - 3
  4. Go to Next Message - 6
  5. Skip Back 5 Seconds - 1
  6. Delete Messages - 76
Sending a Message to Another Mailbox
  1. Dial 4799, enter your voice mailbox number + #, enter your password + #
  2. Press 75
  3. Enter first mailbox number, followed by # (if you do not know the recipient’s mailbox number, press 11 to spell his/her name)
  4. Meridian Mail will confirm your entry by playing that person’s personal verification
  5. Press # to indicate you have finished entering mailbox numbers
  6. Press 5 to begin recording your message
  7. Press # when finished recording
  8. Press 70 to choose a delivery option (option step)
  9. To send the message, press 79

Express Messaging

This feature enables you to send a message to another mailbox without logging into your mailbox.

  1. Dial 5000
  2. Enter the mailbox number and press # (or press 11 to spell the recipient’s name)
  3. Record your message after the tone
  4. When you have completed your message, simply hang up
PLEASE NOTE: Residence student phone numbers are not available through normal directory assistance, and for safety and security reasons the Residence Office will not release phone numbers to other people. Residents, therefore, should inform family, friends, etc., of their phone number once they arrive on campus.
