Research at UPEI is supported by the university's institutional membership in a number of important technology and communications networks.
CANARIE and its twelve provincial and territorial partners collectively form Canada's National Research and Education Network (NREN). This powerful digital infrastructure connects Canada's researchers, educators and innovators provincially, nationally, and globally to the data, tools, colleagues, and classrooms that fuel the discoveries that shape our lives.

ACENET is a consortium of post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada created in 2003 to serve the computationally-based research needs of researchers at five universities. Our membership has since grown to 12 universities and community colleges and over 900 users. However we serve any researcher at any institution in the region, as well as government departments and qualifying private companies.
Through our activities, ACENET accelerates discovery, helps attract and retain Highly Qualified People in the region, and provides students foundational skills in the high-demand field of advanced computing.
We are a regional partner with Compute Canada, the national organization responsible for advanced research computing in Canada. Through Compute Canada, we provide access to resources from across the country, and represent our regional needs at the national table.
We are supported by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the research and innovation initiatives of the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland & Labrador, and our institutions providing major resources.
The backbone of ACENET's network is CANARIE, which provides advanced networking into each province. Our computing resources are connected by several of CANARIE's National Research & Education Networks (NRENs) partners, including ACORN-NL, the New Brunswick Advanced Network and ACORN-NS, with links of various speeds up to 100 Gigabits/second.
Compute Canada, in partnership with regional organizations ACENET, Calcul Québec, Compute Ontario, and WestGrid, leads the acceleration of research and innovation by deploying state-of-the-art advanced research computing (ARC) systems, storage and software solutions. Together we provide essential ARC services and infrastructure for Canadian researchers and their collaborators in all academic and industrial sectors. Our world-class team of more than 200 experts employed by 37 partner universities and research institutions across the country provide direct support to research teams. Compute Canada is a proud ambassador for Canadian excellence in advanced research computing nationally and internationally.
