Notice of Genome Canada Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Competition

Genome Atlantic is interested in reaching out to the researchers at all Atlantic Universities regarding Genome Canada's latest funding competition. We would appreciate any help in disseminating this information.

Genome Canada's (GC) latest Bioinformatics and Computational Biology competition launched in early December. One of the major objectives of this competition is to support the development of tools and methodologies that will help the research community deal with the influx of large amounts of data produced by genomics technologies.

A few key points:

  • The funding is split equally between 2 streams: i) Health and ii) proposals with one of more of the other Genome Canada sectors (energy, fisheries and aquaculture, agriculture, mining, forestry and environment)
  • Project size can range from $0.5M to $1M, with a funding ratio of 1:1 (50% co-funding required, cash or in-kind)
  • Registrations (screened for eligibility) are due to Genome Atlantic (GA) by January 29th, 2018
  • Full applications are due to Genome Canada in April 2018, but GA will be working with project teams to setup some internal deadlines for drafts.

The RFA can be found here, but please feel free to contact me, Britta Fiander ( or Andy Stone (  if you have any questions.  In addition, please know that Genome Atlantic will be pleased to work with applicants to help develop proposals including allocating resources for external reviews prior to submission.

Thank you,
