      A useful collection of brief bibliographies relating to the major traditions of world religions. Maintained by the Pluralism Project, Committee on the Study of Religion, Harvard University.

      A comprehensive site maintained by Prof. Gene R. Thursby, University of Florida. Nicely organized.
       
    • Virtual Religion Index (maintained by Religion Department, Rutgers University)
      A lengthy index site, but many links are not updated. "This site is designed to advance research in matters of religion...is a tool for students with little time. It analyzes & highlights important content of religion-related websites to speed research. Hyperlinks are provided not only to homepages but to major directories & documents within."

      A fine electronic version of a reference work first published in 1913.
       
    • Dictionary of Theology (by The Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry)
      Presents definitions of more than 350 theological terms.
       
    • A Dictionary of Buddhist Terms and Concepts (by SGI-USA)
      Comprehensive and quick.
       
    • Digital Dictionary of Buddhism (maintained by Charles Muller) Useful site.
       
    • Encyclopaedia Britannica 
      This popular site also serves as a fine guide to quality Internet sites and articles on world religions. You can also access the Merriam-Webster dictionary and a wide variety of news and information sources.
       
    • Encyclopedia.com
      This site offers relatively short articles on a wide variety of subjects
       
    • Encyclopedia of Religion and Society
      This is the online version of the print reference work, edited by William Swatos, Jr.
       
    • Glossary of Islamic Terms and Concepts
      "This glossary had its beginnings from the information contained in the booklet Introducing Islam to Non-Muslims by Hussein Khalid Al-Hussein and Ahmad Hussein Sakr. Other terms not in that booklet are continually being added to this list now."
       
    • Glossary of Theological Terms

    • The Jewish Encyclopedia
      "This website contains the complete contents of the 12-volume Jewish Encyclopedia, which was originally published between 1901 and 1906. The Jewish Encyclopedia, which recently became part of the public domain, contains over 15,000 articles and illustrations. This online version contains the unedited contents of the original encyclopedia."
       
    • The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (edited by Edward N. Zalta, Stanford University)
      An excellent online encyclopedia of philosophy and religious thinkers (East and West). Its authors have ftp access to their entries to update them, and a select Board of Editors monitors and referees all entries and updates.

    • American Bible Society Library and Archives
      "is ...a unique 'collection of collections' dedicated to the history of printed Scripture throughout the world. The Library documents hundreds of years of translation and printing and continues as a depository for new Scripture translations from around the world."
       
    • Andover-Harvard Theological Library
      Its primary purpose is "to facilitate access to appropriate information in support of the Harvard Divinity School's mission of educating women and men for service as leaders in religious life and thought." A fine site.
       
    • British Library Catalogue
      Collects over 10 million books, journals, reports, etc.
       
    • Canadian Archival Resources - (Created and maintained by Cheryl Avery, University of Saskatchewan Archives and Steve Billinton, Archives of Ontario)
      This Canadian religious archives section includes a list of quick links. Try it.
       
    • Research Archives of the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago
      Includes a significant number of references and journal articles in Oriental Studies (including Asian religions and cultures).
