Instructor: Dr. Thomy Nilsson
Fall semester, MWF, 11:30-12:20
What is consciousness? This is the most profound question ever asked by the most complex entity in the known universe - the human brain. We do not know the answer. Yet the recent 14th Meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness, and UPEI’s own Julian Jaynes Conferences on Consciousness, have shown that progress is being made. This course will examine what is being learned from philosophical, behavioral, cognitive, and neurophysiological studies - with emphasis on the latter two. The course involves a combination of lectures, class presentations and short essays stemming from the textbook and other materials.
