Eight-day Certificate Program

This program is designed to encourage participants to examine the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to create positive, vibrant and effective workplaces, which provide exemplary service to clients. Participants will reflect their professional and personal experience in the light of current understandings of collaborative leadership, facilitation, organizational culture, and social responsibility.

Participants will:

  • Apply collaborative leadership concepts in real and simulated situations;
  • Practice a wide variety of facilitation skills and techniques;
  • Analyze successful and unsuccessful change/transformation efforts;
  • Determine the relationship between leadership and transformation in organizations;
  • Understand and apply the components of effective group process in a variety of settings;
  • Develop an understanding of organization/group culture and how it can change;
  • Understand and work with diversity in all its forms;
  • Examine and refine a personal, evolving, ethical and reflective philosophy of collaborative leadership and facilitation.

The gatherings will be highly interactive and will model many approaches to collaboration, facilitation, diversity, community development, conflict and self-directed learning. Individuals and small groups of participants will be able to set direction and lead the process throughout the program.

This highly interactive workshop will provide the background and skills required to become a successful collaborator, leader and facilitator. Over the two days, participants will explore the concepts of collaboration, adult learning principles, and facilitation. They will also practice facilitation techniques and consulting skills through a simulation and the preparation of a personal plan of action. This workshop will give direction and build a solid foundation for the subsequent workshops and the overall program. Participants will have the opportunity to share their expectations of the course and set direction for its delivery.

This workshop will help participants understand the process of change and transformation and how individual communications styles and preferences can impact our work.  Participants will examine their own experience of change; discover the difference between change and transformation; learn how to predict the success of a proposed change; recognize different reactions to change; and determine how to lead creative and safe change in the workplace.

More and more, community and government agencies, and private companies are called to worked with diverse individuals, organizations and stakeholders in collaborative projects and action to fulfill their mandate and achieve lasting results. In this two-day session, participants will gain new knowledge and build on existing experience to gain confidence to lead informal and formal facilitation situations. Participants will have the chance to practice their facilitation skills.

During this one-day workshop, participants will explore the impacts of organizational values and culture on collaborative leadership and facilitation. Techniques for decision making and conducting effective meetings will be shared and practiced.

This final two-day workshop will allow participants to deepen their understanding of skills for collaboration and facilitation as well as review and practice the learning from all of the course work to date.  Teams will have the opportunity to facilitate an interactive, participatory process and create a plan for action, and receive feedback on both. The two-days and program will close with a round table discussion on collaboration and facilitation.
