The Canadian Aquaculture Institute offers the following workshops:

These workshops will be offered at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, Charlottetown, PEI under the leadership of Dr. Jonathan Spears, Clinical Laboratory Animal Veterinarian.

The target audience for these workshops includes Attending, Clinical or Consulting Veterinarians, Facility Managers, Aquatic Facility Technicians, and Animal Care Committee Members working with academic or research institutions that house laboratory aquatic animals and/or review animal care protocols involving manipulating fish in the wild. The workshops provide hands-on experience in procedures for aquatic laboratory animals.

These workshops are designed to fulfill the requirements of Continuing Education for Attending, Clinical or Consulting Veterinarians, Facility Managers and Facility Technicians as required by the Canadian Council on Animal Care.

Since 1994, the Canadian Aquaculture Institute (CAI) has been a leader in providing continuing education for the aquaculture industry and animal health professionals, particularly in the areas fish health (including finfish, molluscs, and crustaceans), production, technologies, and management. More recently, CAI has developed programming to meet the needs of veterinarians, animal health technicians, researchers, and technical staff who use or care for aquatic animals in laboratory settings.

Working in close association with the expert faculty and technical staff of the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island (Canada), and industry professionals, the CAI team develops and delivers customized training programs to clients in local, national and international settings.

CAI is a division of UPEI's Office of Skills Development and Learning which delivers continuing education courses, workshops, programs, summer institutes and other services.

"The Experimental Fish" is an online Moodle training program for people who "use" fish in research, teaching and testing applications.

The course follows core topics outlined in the Canadian Council on Animal Care's National Institional Aquatic Animal User Training Program with special reference to aquatic animals, and reviews not only regulatory and ethical issues involved in experimental animal use but also the practical aspects of aquatic animal care.
