Panthernet for OS X 10.7 (Lion) and Apple Handheld Devices

This is a configuration profile for Apple computers running OS X 10.7 (Lion) and Apple devices (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) to allow access to UPEI's secure PantherNet wireless network.

We recommend using PantherNet rather than PantherNet-Open. Apple devices frequently turn off services to conserve power which disconnects the device from an already authenticated session on PantherNet-Open. This profile will resolve the issue by using PantherNet.

To install

  1. Open Safari on your Apple device or laptop.

  2. Click to install Panthernet for OS X 10.7 (Lion) and Apple Devices (if you are using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox it may not run the file directly. Look in your download folder for a file named: UPEI_Panthernet.mobileconfig. Double-click on the file to launch it.)

You will be asked to install the profile and then prompted to add  your UPEI network username and password.  If you are installing wireless on a laptop you will be prompted to enter your laptop's password at some point.

  3. You can then turn on PANTHERNET in your wireless settings and start surfing!

  4. You will be prompted to accept a certificate the first time you connect. This will allow Apple devices or laptop to always connect to UPEI wireless without using the login screen in a web browser.

If you encounter any problems with this procedure, please contact the UPEI IT Systems & Services Help Desk, by telephone at 566-0465, or by email to helpdesk@upei.ca.
