IT Systems & Services offers a complex Local Area Network (LAN) based on the Novell Network Operating System.
Generically refered to as the Micro-Computer Network, or Novell Network, the network delivers computer resources, such as file storage, application delivery, and printing, to meet the specific needs of Students, Faculty and Staff.
Internet Access for email, web pages, news groups and other Internet resources is also delivered to the UPEI campus via the Micro-Computer Network.
General access facilities serve students on a first-come, first-serve basis. IT Systems & Services maintains almost
20 public access student labs across campus. Two of the Microcomputer Labs are regularly used to teach classes and may not be available at all hours of the day. They are the labs at Kelley 129 and at AVC 219S.
Each lab is configured with the same software applications as found in other labs across campus. The aim is to provide a consistent and predictable computing experience in each lab. With the same software in every lab, a student can use a lab nearer to their classes rather than having to visit a lab across campus just to use a specific application.
In a few instances, software specific to the location will be found in specific labs. The best example is the Atlantic Veterinary College, where veterinary software is installed in the labs, or Cass where programs specific to Computer Science are available.
Many times, software can be installed only in limited locations due to licensing restrictions.
This table outlines where the Labs are located, hours of operation and some other important details. Please note, there was a lot of work done to the labs over the summer, some of which is not yet complete. As a result, some of the details may not be entirely correct. Check back occasionally for updates. Read more...
While we attempt to list every piece of software available in the Student Labs, keep in mind that there will be last minute changes and that software specific to a particular course may appear only in certain labs.
