Structure and Process

At the subnode level, research proposals are presented, the subnode budget is allocated, research is conducted, outcomes are generated, and capacity building and dissemination are coordinated.

Subnode 2 is managed by the committee as a whole, although it may in future have a steering committee elected by subnode members. The subnode is responsible for overseeing the on-the-ground work of the individual projects affiliated with this subnode. The subnode coordinator, student assistant and network members manage subnode communications, logistics, work plan and budget in accordance with SSHRCC guidelines.

The Coordinator convenes and often chairs subnode meetings, and supports the individual researchers and their partners in managing their relationships. She links the subnode with the Node at MSVU, communicates regularly with the Principal investigator, and participates in the Node Steering Committee. The Coordinator ensures that notes are taken at each subnode meeting, and that minutes and other relevant items are posted on the project website (or WebCT, as appropriate).

Adding Collaborators or Partners
The initial Subnode 2 members, named in the SES project proposal, understand that as the project develops additional members may be invited to join as Collaborators or Partners. New members will be expected to abide by the protocols and guidelines developed by the Node steering committee and the Subnode, and will be entitled to full representation on and participation in the SES according to their designated category - Collaborator or Partner.

Hiring Policy and Practices (Student Research Assistants and Other Personnel)

Ordinarily, hiring associated with SES will follow an open and competitive procedure. The positions to be filled are to be described clearly, specifying the duties and qualifications sought. Any advertisements for positions will be placed in appropriate venues and a copy of each ad is to be kept in the Subnode and Node files. All applicants for positions funded by the SES project will be expected to submit, minimally, a letter of application and a copy of their CV.

Research Conduct
Subnode 2 members agree to respect intellectual property and confidentiality agreements, and to conduct research according to ethics procedures described in the MOU between Subnode 2 and the Node at MSVU.

Budget allocation
All Subnode 2 team members have the right to participate in the subnode’s budget allocation. The budget will be allocated in consultation with active network members. Current budget will be updated regularly, with updates posted online in the appropriate venue and accessible to Subnode 2 team.
