Who Are We?

As of 2008, Subnode 2 actively involves UPEI faculty, and different social economy organizations. We also have members from off Island - regional and international academics and community partners - who do not attend meetings.

Subnode 2 team is composed of individuals and partner organizations who share a commitment to investigate our research theme of "community mobiliazation through inclusion and empowerment" by designing and conducting research projects. The subnode contains a core group, and a more peripheral group whose primary commitments may be elsewhere but whose research projects intersect with the themes of Subnode 2. Researchers are drawn from academia (including students) and community organizations who carry out research that deals with issues of inclusivity and marginalization, through collaboration with each other.

The community partners are from the non-profit sector, from self-identified community economic development (CED) organizations, and from the co-operative sector, at the level of federations and of grass roots community groups.

The academic researchers are from many disciplines and from different areas of specialization in regards to the social economy. University of Prince Edward Island, partners are with the following departments – Institute of Island Studies, Sociology/Anthropology, Philosophy, Psychology, History, Economics, Education, Nursing.

To date we have employed (directly or with leveraged funds) graduate students, interns who recently graduated from BA programs and undergraduate student assistants. Several other graduate students have participated in meetings and learning events; two local undergraduates and two international graduate students have volunteered with the Hillsborough youth project.
