Advisory Council and Research Associates

The Institute of Island Studies is located within the University's Faculty of Arts. Institute policy is directed by a volunteer Advisory Council made up of University and community representatives, which follow the guidelines of the Institute's purpose and prodecures.

The Chair of the Advisory Council is elected by the Council.

Responsibility for the administration and co-ordination of programs rests with the Director of the Institute.

COMMITTEES

The Institute has the following standing committees: Executive, Fund raising and Promotions, Environment, and Cultural and Natural History.

  • Island Studies Press has its own board of directors. Each committee is made up of at least one Advisory Board member and additional individuals from the community and university. Each has a staff liaison.
  • The Environment committee works on island environment issues.
  • The Heritage and Culture committee works on museum and heritage consultations.
  • Our publishing committee has recently published A Magnificent Gift Declined, a history of the Dalton Sanatorium on Prince Edward Island 1913-1923, and is working on a history of the trawler fleet in Souris, Prince Edward Island.
