Synapse Applied Research & Industry Services (Synapse) is an independently incorporated company created to help transfer the expertise and knowledge housed in the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) into products, processes, services and insights that can provide practical social and economic benefit beyond the university environment.

Synapse is seeking a dynamic individual with the leadership and management skills to effectively identify, develop and manage strategic industry partnerships and collaborative opportunities with partners from the private, public and research sectors. The successful candidate will navigate and resolve issues among all stakeholder groups at both strategic and practical levels. The CEO will facilitate the creation of collaborative opportunities that address both traditional technology development and commercialization from within UPEI and will promote a clear understanding and awareness of Synapse’s mandate and service, both internally and externally.

The CEO will also: 1) engage strategically within both the public and private sectors and will secure traditional industry-based partnerships and funding to improve the impact, integration, and effectiveness of UPEI’s contribution to research investments; 2) explore new opportunities to facilitate research innovation, commercialization, and economic development; 3) manage complex problems and work with industry partners, licensees, and external counsel to effectively integrate their activities; 4) collaborate strategically with the Vice-President Academic and Research and the UPEI Office of Research Services on partnership and funding initiatives.

The CEO brings a strong leadership experience coupled with a successful business career, excellent managerial performance, and outstanding interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate holds a Masters or PhD degree in a relevant discipline, such as business, engineering or science, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
